Print screen Options in Windows and where they are Stored.

In Windows, the location where screenshots are saved depends on how you capture them. Here are the common methods for taking screenshots and where they are saved:

Using Print Screen Key (PrtScn)

  1. Print Screen (PrtScn) Key:

    • Pressing the PrtScn key captures the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard. You can then paste it into an image editor like Paint (Ctrl + V) and save it manually.
  2. Alt + Print Screen (Alt + PrtScn) Key:

    • Pressing Alt + PrtScn captures the currently active window and copies it to the clipboard. You can paste it into an image editor like Paint (Ctrl + V) and save it manually.

Using Windows + Print Screen (Win + PrtScn)

  • Pressing Win + PrtScn captures the entire screen and saves it directly as a file.

Default Save Location:

  • The screenshots taken using Win + PrtScn are saved in the Screenshots folder located inside the Pictures folder.
  • The path is: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Pictures\Screenshots

Using Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch

  • Snipping Tool:

    • Open the Snipping Tool from the Start menu.
    • Capture a screenshot using the tool, and you'll be prompted to save it to a location of your choice.
  • Snip & Sketch:

    • Open Snip & Sketch from the Start menu or by pressing Win + Shift + S.
    • Capture a screenshot, which will be copied to the clipboard. You can paste it into an image editor or click the notification that appears to edit and save it.

Using Game Bar (Win + G)

  • Game Bar:
    • Press Win + G to open the Game Bar.
    • Use the camera button or Win + Alt + PrtScn to take a screenshot.

Default Save Location:

  • Screenshots taken with the Game Bar are saved in the Captures folder inside the Videos folder.
  • The path is: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Videos\Captures

Summary of Save Locations:

  • Print Screen (PrtScn) and Alt + Print Screen (Alt + PrtScn): Copied to clipboard, manually save from an image editor.
  • Windows + Print Screen (Win + PrtScn): C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Pictures\Screenshots
  • Snipping Tool / Snip & Sketch: Manually choose the save location.
  • Game Bar (Win + G): C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Videos\Captures

By using these methods, you can locate your screenshots easily based on how you capture them.
